If you have a US number, whether it’s a local, national, or toll free number, that your clients know, are accustomed to, and can easy relate to your company , you can make use of the power of SMS messages to stay in touch with them through that very same number. This means that you can send them alerts, notifications, reminders, and also receive their responses, essentially chatting with them via SMS.

Why this is important to your business
There’s an important fact: your company telephone number is a vital part of your company identity. It’s very probable that your clients already know your number, and are quite familiar with it. There’s also another important fact: most people (young people, millennials) will prefer to text rather than call. But also, they might be more inclined to reply a text rather than answering a phone call.
It doesn’t matter if you have a small business, a pizza place, a clothing store, or a big insurance company. Adding SMS to your current telephone number will allow you to stay in touch with old and new customers, create loyalty programs, and communicate in a much more effective way.
What you need to add SMS to your company number
Signing up is really easy. Note that this is currently only available for US numbers (although it doesn’t matter if it’s national, local, or toll free, we can work with all of them in the same way).
You also need a PortaText account, that you can open right now for free (including 50 free credits) at www.portatext.com/signup.
How to apply for the service
Once you have created your PortaText account, download the PortaSMS authorization form, complete it and send it back to us along with a digital copy of the telephone bill corresponding to the telephone number where you want to activate the service.
You can send all the information by either opening a ticket in our Support Center directly, or through your user panel by clicking “Help&Support”. You can also send it via email to email@example.com.
Once approved, your number should be able to handle SMS traffic in the next 24 hours.
